Ethan still harbors his old insecurities of not being good enough for Clara, but takes on the role of her escort and rescuer in a natural way, despite his misgivings. A wonderful second chance at love story with plenty of romantic tension and sweet moments of anticipation! (I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)

Clara and Ethan have a history--he left her six years before, with only a note, right before they were to be married. They're unexpectedly thrown together when Clara escapes from her brother who wants to take her to England and marry her off. Finally she can find out what happened after he left and why he never came back to her--but only if they start speaking to each other. The scene where they meet again is a great one. I like the description of how Clara felt "Two parts of her quarreled like Clara and Ethan have a history--he left her six years before, with only a note, right before they were to be married. I like the description of how Clara felt "Two parts of her quarreled like sullen sisters." I liked that we get both Clara and Ethan's points of view. Even though it's right under 100 pages I felt I got to know the characters, although I did find myself yelling at them to "just talk to each other already" while reading. I really like stories where there's been a misunderstanding and the characters involved are forced to spend time together so their choices are ignore each other, or talk about it and work it out. This is a novella so it's a fast read. Perfect for an afternoon or evening or when you don't have time to get into a big book. I haven't read a lot of books set in Colonial America but it's a nice change from the Regency I've been reading. This is a new author for me, although I have several of her books on my Kindle. I need to fit them into my reading schedule. I received a complimentary copy and chose to leave a review. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Clara Moore has known the sweet joy of first love and the heartache of being left at the altar. The scars are still raw, even after 6 years have passed. Clara has built walls around her heart and has tried to move forward with her life. She is a strong, capable woman, who knows what she wants and the causes she is willing to stand up for. When her path unexpectedly converges with none other than the man who broke her heart, will she be able to trust him again? Ethan Barrik has spent the last 6 years fighting the Brittish for American freedom, and longing for the love he walked away from. He thought if he could just make himself worthy of her love, then he could return. But the longer he stayed away the harder the journey to reconciliation became.  If you are like me and love to read the kind of story where you are so emersed in the telling that you feel what the characters are feeling, then this is the story for you! I love it when a couple-meant-to-be has a second shot at true love, but it was a tiny bit aggravating to watch this couple suffer unnecessarily due to their inability to voice their true feelings and reasons. Of course, that would have made for a super short book, so I'll forgive them, since their love story was sweet and satisfying. These Timeless Romance Singles are very enjoyable. I love reading books by author Amber Lynn Perry. She excels at writing characters that come alive for me and this book is no exception. This felt like a short book (And it is! I just checked- 99 pages) and even in that short amount of time I really felt like I knew the characters. Knew them and was frustrated with them! Especially Ethan. I may or may not have yelled out loud to him, "COME ON, Ethan. Man up and just tell her already!!" When the story begins, Clara is hurt, angry and confused. Ethan is guilty, remorseful and seeking forgiveness. Both of these characters sit in silence more than they talk which is where my frustration with them came in. Thankfully Clara finally musters the courage to confront Ethan which leads to some better communication. Eventually. I felt the mounting tension, the growing feelings and the unmistakable attraction. I missed the historical depth I've come to love from this author but realize that with a story this length, that had to be sacrificed to some degree. 😭 I really did enjoy this little bite sized story though!

This was a sweet and fast read for me. I dove right in and loved the time period, the second chance and the little bit of suspense throughout the book. A novella, for me, is usually cute and okay. Nothing terrible, but also not amazing. Amber Lynn Perry has taken a novella, Upon My Heart Forever, and made every word count! This was a sweet quick read. It did get a bit wordy there for a min. This author sure loves her metaphors....like loves. It was pretty writing just over done. Everything had a bit too much drama for me too. These too could have sat down and had a long conversation and solved a whole lot that took 3 days to resolve. This is a sweet chaste story that ends very well.

This is my favorite kind of book! It’s well-written with great characters. And it’s something I can read in an afternoon. It’s perfect for a day at the beach or lounging by the pool. The reader finds out as the first chapter goes along that she’s trying to get out of the house before her brother returns. He’s planning to take her to England to marry and she wants none of that. I loved Clara. She’s a great character who just wants to live her life in the way she sees fit. I felt kind of sad for her because she was in love with Ethan and she had no idea what had happened to him. One of my favorite things about this book was the way Ethan was asked to escort Clara. And he had no idea that he was to escort her. And even better, neither did she. That whole scene was so fun! But I kind of wanted to smack both of these characters, because when they’re thrown together they don’t just decide to love each other the way they already do and move on. That would have saved them so much time. There is plenty of great things going on in this one. I really loved the characters and the plot. I liked the way the book ended. This is a fun one to read!

Ethan has returned to New York to try to settle things with Clara--and yet, he's been too afraid to talk to her. Will their travels together give him the chance to finally adequately explain why he left her behind--and what he wishes for the future? This was a very good historical novella. Sweet historical romance readers will enjoy the chemistry and sweetness of this romance. I found these characters to be interesting. I really liked Ethan. He's fought for his country, but has held his love for Clara close to his heart through it all. He's come back for her, but finds he is afraid to know if she waited for him or if she's willing to forgive him now that he can properly provide for her as his wife. Clara is a counter to Ethan's steadiness. She's flighty in many ways and goes back and forth with her treatment of Ethan as she just doesn't know what to believe or what she wants. I found her to be overly dramatic and much of the prose to be on the flowery side. The romance was sweet, but almost too sweet for me. I'm not sure if it was my mood or what, but I wanted more depth to these characters and to the story. Having said that, I still enjoyed reading this! In the end, was it what I wished for? Given the short format of these stories I still found the ending to be blissfully satisfying! I received a copy of this story from the author and am under no obligation to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* This is quite plainly a cute historical novella. Is there much conflict? Not really. It's full of emotional angst from the hero's abandoning the heroine before the book starts, but the basis for the romance is already set, and the urgency to escape the heroine's controlling brother just fuels the romance. Is it particularly stand out among novellas, not particularly, but is it a cute clean book that is fun to read, just because? And did I like the story enough to read other books by this author, Sure! Because sometimes we just need something cute and fun to read that won't take forever and doesn't have to turn into a discussion on literary merit. Sometimes it's nice to read something light just because it brings a smile to your face. And this book fits firmly in that category.

I was really torn about what to write here. I was really pulled in by the first few chapters. But then I found myself getting more and more frustrated that even though they were back together relatively quickly, he spends more than half the book justifying why NOT telling her why he broke her heart is the right thing to do. Add to that the fact that I kept getting pulled out of the story by the overuse of large, archaic wording, and it just lost steam for me. This was an enjoyable book. It was a nice read. I liked the characters Clara and Ethan very much. I also found I liked the development of the two as they moved from not feeling loved and the related hurt, and the one who loved but caused the hurt. There was colonial war and war of words, but both love and good friends and divine help to help bridge some walls. I did not like the fact that the brother character was not more developed and would have liked to have seen more "tension" to be resolved in This was an enjoyable book. It was a nice read. I would recommend the story as a good clean romance.

I'm a sucker for first love, second chances stories, so Upon My Heart Forever appealed to me right away. I liked the characters, and thought that even though this was a novella, the development wasn't lacking. The way Clara and Ethan meet after having been apart for six years was quite entertaining. I enjoyed the post Revolutionary setting. A few things seemed like they may not have fit that era, but on the whole it was a clean, enjoyable, and quick read. I would read more from this author. 3.5 St I'm a sucker for first love, second chances stories, so Upon My Heart Forever appealed to me right away. This little book packs a big punch. This is the second book I have read by Amber. I really liked the first one so I didn’t hesitate to pick this one up. I really like her writing style and nothing is lost in this short story. Ethan and Clara definitely frustrated me. I just wanted them to speak the truth. Of course if that happened too soon there would be no story. The way these two are thrown together makes for a very interesting story. A copy of this book was given to me. It's funny how we second guess ourselves when our heart is on the line, and it's no different for Ethan and Clara. Six years of separation has not dimmed their feeling for each other, but both are afraid. I love the sweet romance with lighter touches of historical background descriptions. Each character is like someone you've met before, from the best friend that would do anything for you, to the lady who talks and fusses over you that you can't explain what is really happening. I find that mediocre books generally have a plot that's okay and writing that is less than stellar. This one was the reverse of that; the writing was stronger, but the plot had gaping holes and inconsistencies. I also didn't like how the main characters took so long to voice their true feelings, which is something that always drives me crazy...both in real life and in books. Content: clean. No profanity. No sex. Some mild violence. Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy of this book.
